Laurel Izard: cats, space aliens, and collage
Michigan City, on the northern shore of Lake Michigan has been my home for over twenty years. I received my BA from Northern Illinois University, majoring in art and anthropology, and my MFA in Ceramics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My work has been exhibited throughout the region and the United States in galleries, museums, and art fairs.
I find that working with humor, allows for seeing things in a new way, which is less judgmental and more receptive to possibility. Some of the influences on my work include: alchemy, nature, tribal art, religious iconography, the tarot, medieval illumination, mythology, psychology, pulp science fiction, and comic books.
